And for the first time, the lecture will be given in English so fasten your seat belt and get ready to learn about\u2026 exotic glasses. This time, Johann Troles of Universit\u00e9 de Rennes will be our guest and he will tell you about chalcogenide glasses and fibers for mid-infrared applications.<\/p>\n<p>Did you know that the glass and ceramics group of the Institute of Chemical Sciences of the University of Rennes presents an important knowledge of exotic glass without silica, for example: fluorides, phosphates, and chalcogenides?<\/p>\n<p>In the past decade, this above-mentioned team developed a great experience of chalcogenide glass, in their synthesis and purification, their shaping, and the study of optical properties. These types of glass have useful applications as components for lenses for infrared cameras, and chalcogenide glass fibers and optical components are used in waveguides for use in lasers, optical switching and chemical sensing.<\/p>\n<p>About the lecturer:<\/p>\n<p>Johann Troles is a professor at the University of Rennes. His research activities include synthesizing, shaping, and characterizing the chalcogenide glass and \ufb01bers. Since 2004, he has worked on the preparation of high-purity chalcogenide glass and \ufb01bers and more particularly on microstructured \ufb01bers for applications in the near and mid-infrared. The applications of such new fibers apply to the realization of high-power transmission fibers, new infrared sources (particularly on the generation of mid-infrared supercontinuum), and mid-infrared spectroscopy.<\/p>\n<p>Organizers: prof.
