This year’s Nobel Prize winners, Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz, and Anne L’Huillier, received the Physics Prize for creating new experimental tools to study the dynamics of electrons inside the matter. They used attoseconds pulses [an attosecond is a one quintillionth of a second = 10^(-18)] in their research. Imagine – having a photo camera where its shutter opens for such a short time… A blurred photo would be out of the question! And seriously – thanks to such tools we can study extremely short phenomena inside the molecules. Looks complicated? Yes, this is not easy to understand such complex research, but it helps to understand better the phenomena that have a fundamental impact on our lives!
