It’s time for a coffee break, so let’s discuss Raman spectroscopy over a cup of coffee. Sit down and enjoy your favourite beverage as today it’s coffee day!

What does coffee have in common with Raman spectroscopy? By analyzing the Raman spectrum, our researchers can obtain information about the characteristic atomic vibrations in the tested substances (for instance coffee), which allows them to identify and analyze the chemical composition of coffee, such as caffeine, chlorogenic acids, polyphenols, and other substances.

Possible applications of Raman spectroscopy when it comes to coffee don’t just include the identification of chemical components and the analysis of chemical changes occurring during roasting or preparation of the beverage. Raman analysis also allows you to examine the processes of roasting coffee beans and their quality control.
