Did you know that the typical size of our quantum cascade laser (QCL) is: 2-4 mm in length and 0.5 mm in width which is roughly the size of a mosquito?  However, it’s more dangerous than this annoying species – laser beam of QCL can be felt and is dangerous, especially for the eye.

Quantum cascade lasers manufactured at Łukasiewicz – IMiF operate in pulses at room temperature, as well as on a continuous wave. We create quantum cascade lasers in the mid-infrared range: 4.5-14 µm and the terahertz range.

The advantages of QCL lasers include a very wide range of wavelengths, compactness, easy control, ability to smoothly change the emission wavelength over a very wide range of wavelengths using the same materials by adjusting the thickness of the layers in the active area of the laser.

These devices are an excellent light source for mid- and far-infrared applications such as molecular gas analysis and absorption spectroscopy.
