At the end of the last week, a few of our experts visited the country of Etna – the volcano that has been recently smoking the peace pipe (hopefully) with people living at the foot of it. Tomasz Bieniek, Ph.D., Eng. and Grzegorz Janczyk, Ph.D., Eng. along with our partners from DACPOL Sp. z o.o. (Adam Sitnik, Katarzyna Patyrowska) and other 25 institutions coming from 13 different countries took part in the 3rd review meeting of the European REACTION project.

It is in Catania, Sicily where, within the aforementioned project, the first in the world production line on 8” (200mm) SiC wafers has been recently built! What’s more, our Institute along with its partners are realizing one of the project demonstrators – 20kW module DC/DC powerelectronics built on power elements made on SiC substrates.

The meeting was coinciding with the STMicroelectronics Catania 60th anniversary, combined with a festival taking place in the main square of Catania.

To sum it up, this is what Grzegorz Janczyk, Ph.D. had to say about the event:

STMicroelectronics Anniversario – this is how business has been developed when promoting the tradition and experience of 60 years of its existence. Let’s admire, imitate, and use the gained experiences of the world leaders! This is how you acquire new generations of industry specialists from the knowledge-experience-know-how-achievements field… And they’re specialists of the highest quality!
